The Two Things Every Landlord and Property Manager Can Do To Help Today

As the COVID-19 virus pandemic escalates in scale in Minnesota, as a landlord or property manager, you will need to prepare yourself and your tenants around concerns.

It is imperative that you take time to educate and inform them as well as yourself so that you are protecting your business, property and your tenants as much as possible.

There are many unanswered questions and lot of new things happening daily but here are some things to do now.

#1 Communicate with your tenants – Send out letters

This is a very stressful time for many people and hearing from you will help elevate some of that stress.  This letter should include basic information around things being affected by the pandemic. Some topics to be covered:

  • What a tenant should do if they are at risk of exposure of showing virus symptoms
  • How and when common areas are being disinfected (if it is a multi-unit environment)
  • How rent should be delivered and in what form with no person-to-person contact
  • New communication and physical distancing protocol

It is also a good idea to remind tenants that only toilet paper should be flushed down the toilet.  Items such as paper towels, wet wipes, napkins, etc. will clog the pipes and cause further issues.

#2 Managing Tenant Fears – Call them

The best thing you can do to help your tenants to manager their fear and anxiety about the pandemic affecting the world is talk to them and help educate them.

Connect tenants with resources that will help them to get educated:
